- Mary Alva Sterzing, age 94, of Austin, Texas, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2010. She was born November 10, 1915, in Caldwell County, Texas. Mary was one of 8 children born to the late F.P. Miles and Della Sullivan Miles.
She was married to the late Charles Thomas (C.T.) Sterzing of Austin, Texas who was the love of her life. She was a dedicated wife and mother; supporting C.T. and children in the family business, Austin Pump and Supply. Mary and C.T. were lifetime members of Congress Avenue Baptist Church.
Mary, like others of the Miles family, taught us to love our God and the importance of family and that true friendship between members was essential.
In 1987 she suffered a stroke, which limited her ability to talk. Understanding everything that was said, she responded with the best words in the world. "I love ya". Even when being introduced to a new person, she would respond with "I love ya". It brought a smile to everyone's face.
She is survived by her son, Charles Thomas (Tom) Sterzing II and his wife Becky Lynn, and one daughter Rebecca Sue Sterzing, four grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mable Lehman Sands and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, C.T. Sterzing, her parents F.P. and Della Miles and her siblings Cloister Miles, Dough Miles, Benny Miles, Olen Miles, Margie Speer and Claudia Chamberlain.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Harrell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Capital Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the American Red Cross.
