Sadie Marie Kelly McRae Sadie Marie McRae of Austin, Texas beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend went home to be with our Lord on January 22, 2010. She was born August 29, 1925 in Bastrop County, Texas, the youngest of three children of John W. Kelly and Dora Kelly. After moving to Austin, Sadie was a 1943 graduate of Austin High School and attended the University of Texas. Sadie married Daniel M. McRae on December 1, 1950. Dan and Sadie, together with Stanley and Dorothy Depwe, started a family business, Westlake Beach in 1954.
Through her employment at the U. S. Post Office, State Banking Department and the University of Texas, countless numbers of friends were blessed with her optimistic outlook on life. Sadie was a people person, loving to laugh and make others laugh. She genuinely enjoyed visiting with people and she never met a stranger.
Her true joy came from raising her two daughters, Kelly and Shelly. As a stay at home wife and mother she was an enthusiastic school and community volunteer. Sadie was actively involved in many organizations including being a 50+ year member of Creedmore Chapter #607, Order of the Eastern Star and Ruh Neb Temple, Daughter of the Nine. In her earlier years she was a member of the Royal Dancers of Ruh Neb Temple.
Sadie enjoyed the friendships she made as life long member the Barton Hills Garden Club, and a member of the Austin Area Garden Council. Her bouquet of friends included those she met while volunteering at Zilker Botanical Gardens, Austin Diagnostic Medical Clinic, Paramount Theater and Park Hills Baptist Church, where she was a member. She was well known for her seasonal holiday attire. Sadie had a flair for dressing for holidays, as well as coordinating her extensive wardrobe on a daily basis.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dan, parents John and Dora Kelly, brothers Burl Kelly and Noel Kelly. Her survivors include Kelly and Randy Cox of Fort Worth, Shelly and Mitch Taylor of Austin. Grandchildren Pierce Cox, Bryce Cox, Michelle Taylor, Raleigh Taylor, Ashley Taylor and Juliana Taylor. Brother-in-law Howard McRae, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Eva and Dee Wheeler of Austin. Numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Randy Bethune.
"Mama Sadie" gave her heart to all that she met, in return her life was filled with family and friends who adored her. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
The wishes to thank Kayla, Tametra and Rose for the quality of care and warm friendship extended to "Miss Sadie" during the past few months; and, to the family at Park Hills Baptist Church the prayers and visits.
The family will host a visitation at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Harrell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Zilker Botanical Gardens, Paramount Theater or a charity of your choice.
